MountainSafety.co.uk is the project of Andy Luke. Andy is a qualified Mountain Leader (summer) has been a keen hill walker since the late 1980s. He completed the Lake District Wainwrights in 2006, is currently just over half way through the Scottish Munros, and has experience of rock climbing and winter mountaineering in Scotland.
During his walking career, Andy has gathered a mass of experience along the way, read books, been out in all kinds of weather, walked with people and often walked alone. Each time he heard of a mountain rescue due to people getting lost, having no torch and it going dark, or other preventable situations, he wondered why people put themselves at risk with what would seem to be the absence of the required skills.
In 2012 he decided to do something about it, and that's when MountainSafety.co.uk was born. The objective is simply: to provide a free resource for people so that they can learn and be more prepared for their trip to the hills and mountains of the UK.
