Temporary Mis-location

You're not lost, you're temporarily mis-located. There is a difference!

Temporary Mis-location

This isn’t a joke, or politically correct way of saying that you’re lost.

Far from it. If you’d walked for hours, with no map, paying no attention to any land features nor noticed the direction in which you’d travelled, then in that situation you may well be lost. However, if you follow the advice given in the Feature Tick List section, you should know where you’ve been until quite recently. Lost should be something that happens to other people.

Being mis-located should not be an issue and it happens even when you've been successfully navigating on the hills for years. The skill is to recognise early that you aren't where you think you should be, or something isn't quite right, and to stop and take stock of the facts of the situation.

Work through this section for tips and strategies to relocate yourself.
