Mountain Trauma Rescue Services are a event medical and training organisation who run a series of first aid courses, designed by paramedics and targeted specifically at outdoor first aid. They are based on Ambleside.

Emergency Care in Remote Environments (Basic)

A popular course offered by Mountain Trauma Rescue Services is the Emergency Care in Remote Environments (Basic). This 16 hour course suits outdoor enthusiasts and established or aspirant outdoor activity leaders.

The course validates National Governing Body awards such as the SPA, MIA, BASI and ML.

It includes two days of instruction that includes outdoor practical scenarios and assessment. Upon successful completion candidates will be certificated for three years in Emergency Care in Remote Environments (Basic).

Mix of indoor theory and outdoor practical sessions

  • Basic Life Support and CPR
  • Recovery position on steep and diffi cult ground
  • Control of bleeding and management of shock
  • Monitoring and recording vital signs
  • Major head, spine, chest and abdominal trauma
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Medical emergencies

Training is delivered by paramedics, doctors and mountain rescue team members, who don't just know the the theory, they have many examples to share with attendees.
