First Aid Kit

A first aid kit should be an essential part of everyone’s personal kit, even if just a few plasters and blister kit, with the group having between them a more comprehensive kit stocked with bandages and other items that are in line with the skills of the people to use them.

First Aid Kit Contents

  • some plasters - assorted sizes
  • a triangular bandage
  • zinc oxide or elastoplast tape
  • disposable gloves
  • large & medium sterile wound dressings
  • eye bandage
  • sterile cleansing wipes
  • tweezers
  • scissors
The above list is a selection of useful items, but there is no specific minimum requirement.

Splint

Depending on the size of group, you may also want to take a flexible splint, which can be invaluable for immobilising someone with a fractured arm or lower leg, prior to mountain rescue arriving.

These splints are made of foam with inbuilt flexible aluminium bars, with this one being made by SAM Splints.  Check out their website

In the UK, the full range of SAM splints is available from SP Services - www.spservices.co.uk
